Kia to Launch 7 Electric Cars in 7 Years

Ho Sunt, the Kia President and CEO announced the strategy for future electric vehicle production during an event at the brand’s Hwasung plant in Korea.

It claims that Kia had sold more than 100,000 BEVs worldwide since the introduction of its first mass-produced BEV in 2011, the Kia Ray EV.

The CEO added

“Since then, we have started to introduce a range of new BEVs for global markets and announced plans to accelerate this process in the years ahead. By refocusing our business on electrification, we are aiming for BEVs to account for 25 percent of our total worldwide sales by 2029.”

‘Plan S’ Strategy

Kia announced the ‘Plan S’ strategy at the beginning of 2020. It is to expand the BEV line up to 11 models by 2025. During this period, Kia aims BEVs to account for 20% of the total vehicle sales in the markets such as Korea, North America, and Europe.

The mid to long-term future strategy shows the company’s plans to transition the future business to focus on BEVs and mobility solutions.

The latest announcement is that it revealed the seven BEVs to launch by 2027.

The first model of these BEVs is named CV and will be revealed in 2021. Kia says that the vehicle would follow the same competitive product quality and eye-catching design as other vehicles from the brand.

As an electric car, it would provide high performance driving and recharging characteristics.

Kia’s other e-mobility plans

The expansion of charging stations is a precondition for the popularization of EVs, Kia believes. As a result, it is expanding the charging infrastructure worldwide.

Kia will strengthen the business activities in Korea that directly lead to the construction of the charging infrastructure. It aims to supply around 1,500 electric vehicle chargers by 2030.

In Europe, Kia installs around 2.400 chargers in Europe and around 500 in North America partnering with its dealer networks.

Conclusion

Kia Motors actively involving in the electric vehicle market aiming to be a global leader in the e-mobility. The business plans are to expand the production of electric vehicles and shift 20% of vehicles to all electric by 2025.
